Website

The magazine will have new name thst I havent chosen yet. This is going to be the website plan and the main focus will be on the audio-visual conten. For the audio-visual content, I will be showcasing my magazine. At the same time I will be filming segemnts of teens and young adults watching televiosn and listening to music regarding the themes my magazine will be carrying out.

Layout

This is going to be the layout of my magazine. The only difference is that it will have a new title and wont be focussed on musc, fashion and home combined. I will be doing one magazine on television and one on music but using the layout for both.

Pitch feedback

I created a presentation which presented my ideas for my mgazine. Unfortunately there was an overwhelming amount of critism. When I read the breif, I automatically decided I would be able to direct my magazine at the lower end of 16-25 but after my presentation,my peers pointed out that I should be aiming it towardsevryone, just like the brief said. This means I will have to chnage the title as well as the magazine is no longer aimed at teens. Also, fashion is not classed as entertainment so I will be focusing my magazine on music instead of fashion, also, it will be aimed at both genders rather than just females. After tweeking my magazine, I feel like I have created an entertainment magazine that is appropriate for all genders that focusses specifically on music.

Initial Ideas

Initial Ideas
My initial ideas are based around music and fashion for teenagers aged between 14-18. I want to incorperate the both of them because I feel like this is an original idea and hasn't been done many times before.
Ideas for the contents of the magazine include finding outfits from celebrity music videos and then publishing them on paper. Current music and fashion. Fashion and music across the world. Hostory.
The main task is do not make it boring, it must be entertaining.
I want to take my own images.

Magazine Companies

Hearst Communications are a giant mass American conglomerate that focuses on media and business. They own over 30 magazines, newspapers and television channels/stations that are available over the entire world.

https://www.hearst.co.uk/about-us

Our goal is simple:

create premium, purposeful content that helps our audiences and partners strive, thrive and get more out of life.

They claim that content is created to help their audience and this may be true tih the main aspects of the magazines that they sell. Each magazine has a different agenda, for example, one is called 'Good Housekeeping'; helping their audience's home to be modern, clean and impressive. Other magazines they have created are 'Men's Health' and 'Women's Health', two magazines that are encouraging their audience to be more healthy and be the best of their self.

One of the biggest world-wide magazine companies is Current Publishing and their magazine are based on information like history and architecture. There are many websites and media aspects that will go with the magazines. This therefore appeals to the younger audience.

From this, I have realise that my company will need to be confident in writing to make the magazines appear better.

Analysis of 5 contents

Shot types include a long shot of a couple hugging yet promoting fashion, the same photo from the front cover and a close up of a salad. The biggest photo is of the couple showing that love and fashion is the most important thing. Basic font colours are black, white and red, yet very small.
No shots of people but there are lots of pictures of different items. There is a spider, camera, motor bike and a robot. All images are the same size showing they are all equalling important. Font colours match the front cover, blue, red and black, mixture of sizes.
Lots of images of celebrities from individual photoshoots. Lots of time and thought on all costume and make up. Other images include clothes and make up. The biggest image is of a model promoting fashion. Font is either black, white or pink. Introduction font is big, context is small.
Large photo of musician Adele in an expensive black dress with very dramatic hair and makeup. There looks as if there is wind to make her appear more powerful. Other pictures are of celbrities smiling. Adele is the main focus of this issue so she is the most prominent. Font is red, white or black. All font is small.
Images here include snipits from different film and television that is included in the magazine. All images are of a similar size yet Thor (the main focus of the magazine)  is probably the biggest. Font is red, white and black. Font is medium size.

Analysis of 5 covers

 Red- Bright colours
Close up image of actress Rachel Hunter smiling wearing a casual pink jumper. Eye contact is made suggesting a friendly welcome. Minimum make up and hair is flowing like there is wind blowing, the background is blue implying she is outside. She is the main focus as there are no other images, she takes up the entire front cover. Font of the title is white on a red backround with the letters joined, this widely contrasts to the other text which is in bold and blocked letters, they are not in capitals. There is lots of writing on the cover in either pink, white or black which makes the front cover look busy.
 Flip side- Lots of colours
Large image of a dinosaur flying with green skin. The main focus is the dinosaur however there are other images of a phone, formula 1 car, warrior, windsurfer and headphones yet these are much smaller compared. Flip is in red whereas side is in black but the entire thing is in capitals. minimal writing but is in white.
 Look- Wide variety of colours
Close up of actor Jennifer Aniston smiling while wearing an expensive, black, sequin dress.  Eye contact is made. Dramatic hair and makeup, image is taken from an event. Other images of celebrities and clothing items deemed lessimportant due to size. Aniston is the main focus. The font is in serif, capitals and yellow, the image slighlty covers some of the title. Lots of writing, black font with a yellow highlight.
 Q- Some colours
Close up of singer Adele posing with her finger on her mouth, wearing a purple dress. Eye contact is made. Hair and make up is dramatic, taking from a photoshoot. There are no other images as this takes up the whole page.Serfi, capital 'q'. White on red background. All writing in capitals and in black and red.
Total Film 212- Minimum colours
Long shot of the main characters (3) in 'Thor' in full costume and stern facial expressions. Eye contact is made. Costume is full and dramatic. There are no other images. Thor is placed slightly more infront than the other two characters to show that he is more superior. Total is written in the top of the f in film. Both are in capital yet the main focus is on film as that is in silver and is much bigger. Writing is in serif and is white.

Other Students work

students magazines from the previous years were based upon fashion rather than entertainment. However, fashion can be incorportaed into entertainment so I will be able to use some information from these students work and use it in my final piece. From first impressions the magazine is rather basic yet it does look impressive. The colours are kept to a minimal, which is good because a wide variety of colours can make a magazine appear childlike and messy.

The contents page's colours are different to the cover's, something that i wouldnt chose to do because i think it looks messy and unprofessional. Overall, i would like my magazine to have more colour that this because I dont want it to be boring, yet i do like the layout of the .The main picture on the magazines cover and contents is encapturating .

Inspirations, Styles and Target audience

Inspirations/Styles/Target Audience
I feel there is a gap in the market for teen entertainment magazines as all the entertainment magazines are either aimed at you girls ( Girl Talk, Top of the Pops) or at adults (OK!, Prima). Teenagers main source of news will be on social media ra6ther than newspapers and magazines.
My inspirations for my magazine is a combination of Top of the Pops and Prima. The target audience for Top of the Pops (sometimes abriviated as TOTP) is from ages about 12-15 and the target audience for Prima is for adults around 21-30. The main features I would like to use in my magazine is the fashion and music focus. I would also want todirect the magazine atfemales as I will be able to use my own initiative of what girls my own age (15-19) will like. These cover will help me when designing my own.

Prelim Photography

Here there are a wide variety of different camera shots and angles to make the topic of aloneness and togetherness appear more lifelike and emotional. My partner and I chose two different settings, the school library and a bench outside, both quite lonely settings, and took photos there.  The camera angles we have are close up, mid shot, low angle and these really capture the intesity of each photo, having a long shot of me in the library makes me look insignificant compared to the close up of me and my partner. The main focus was of us, rather than the surroundings, yet we decided to chnage the focus for the final photo to see if this changed the outcome. However, due to the sheer focus of the bookshelf, it was a failure and didn't show our theme at all.  In the photos taken outside, my patner is wearing full black, a colour of depression, yet I am wearing lots of colours which contrasts nicely. From this task, I feel more confident in using a camera and deciding the setting of shots before taking them. Persoanlly, I think we did a good job and the key theme is seen clearly here.

Research 5 Websites

Media Language- The layout of cosmopoliton has one large image and 5 smaller images each promoting an article of the magazine. All of the images are eye catching, colourful and appear rather positive. There are different types of images as well: long shot and close ups of real celebrities whilsts incorperating typical images that are just of random people and a snapshotof a film. Everyone's facial expressions are rather happy, non are purposly miserable. All clothes worn by the celebrities are bright. All font is sans serif showing that the magazine is not traditional.  The colour is very bright overall.
Representations- From this website, we can tell that it is mainly directed to female aged 30 and under. the main colour is pink, a coulour widely associated with females as well.

Media Language- The layout of this magazine has got four large images connected to popular and current arcticles. to the lft of the page there are smaller imags also connected to arcticles yet these are deemed less important that the other. The images are primarily of reality stars associated with social media an some are in very skimpy and minimal clothing. evryones facial expressions completely match the tone of the arcticle, happy, sad, etc. the colour is red which is the same as the paper copy found in many shops
Representations- Again, this website s directly targeted at popel who would frequently be up to date on social media and have interest in this subject, so therefore it would be around the 30 and under mark again.

Media Language-  The layout of 'what's on tv?' is very similar to the previus two yet the contents of this magazine website is completely different. The images used are taken either from a previous photoshoot, a paparazzi shot or the titles of a television  programme. The stories they have chosen are meaningful and primarily focus on actors and acresses in television, especially soaps.
Representations- Made for people who enjoy televiosn, specifically at over 30.

The layout is simple with a lot of colour. The main focus of the websitg is technology and different technical items. The pictures are of technology, including a new phone design, which are then hyperlinked to a well informed artictle of it. the stories are on  timer and change evrery five seconds, lettiing the audience get a feel for the website.
Representation- Probably, the main target is at males aged 15-40.

The layout of the magazine has a picture of females in short dresses walking, obviously promoting the fashion side of the magazine. there are tabs avialable with different sections of the website including beauty and celebrity gossip.
Representation- Females ages 18-40.

Synergy

The synergy between a magazine and its website must be compatable.
Here are two examples from the 26/03/19 copy of 'Ok!'

Here are two examples from the 21/03/19 online addition of 'Ok!'

The paper copy of the magazine, primarily focussing on the members of the royal family and the ten year anniverssary of the death of Jade Goody. The royal family are popular among middle aged and middle classed traditionalists within Britain. Paper copies of magazines are becoming less ppopular nowadays, especially with the younger generation, hence why this magazine is focussing on a maternal family. They focus on on Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle, the wives of the royal family's 3rd generation, and what they have chosen to wear. It is directly associated with middle ages women. The other story they have included is the 10 year passing since Jade Goody's death being a serious matter which is dealt with precision and heart.
However, this story is not featured at all on the website as young poeple (16-25) would have been a young child or teen when this news broke. Young people are much more likely to use social media and the internet. clearly on the internet page, all the celebrity gossip news are from people involved with reality television.
From this, I can learn that more family friendly entertainment should be included within a paper copy. The similarities howver, must be available. By this, the main focus should be the same. Here, the main focus is celebrities, gossip and news.

Genre

Genre
The entertainment genre covers a vide variety of aspects that caters for a large audience. Some features they include are televison & film, music, celebrity gossip, sport and anything that generally entertains. In Britain alone there are around 40 official entertainment magazines that are available to buy from many newsagents and shops. However becuase of the specificity they arent too popular. for example, 'Jazzwise' is a magazine that is catered for people interested in jazz music which is a small percentage of people overall. Circulation for this genre- especially celebrity gossip-has been on a decline, however, due to more people accessing their gossip on the internet. 'Now' had a 21% drop in circulation of its print and digital copies year-on-year, Closer down 20%, Heat 17%, and Grazia 13%. this genre is specifically suffereing as well due to social media.

Preliminary Task

The Brief

Planning

As a group we had to chose a music video to recreate. For easier filming purposes we chose from music videos that were filmed and set inside a school. after watching a previous class' video to High School Musical's 'What time is it?', as a group, we decided to try something different and thus chose Jessie J's 'Who's laughing now'. The song and video depicts bullyinh in a school. To plan this, the seven of us assigned eachother with individual roles appropriate to the video and prepared the classroom to loo some what similar to the video's. Also we practised learning the words to the song so it would be easier when lip syncing during the filming process.

Filming
To begin filming our music video, we used a DLSR camera and used a variety of different scamera angles to make the video look as similar to the original as possible. Some shots we included followed; extreme close ups, close ups, long shots, medium shots and two shots. All seven of us had the chance to film some shots ranging from a second to around six or seven seconds. Our assigned roles included young Jessie, old Jessie, the four bullies and the other children in the background, leaving the majority of us to lip sync. this was deemed as embarrassing and difficult for some of us. Using a tripod with our camera ensured we had shots that looked professional and were not shakey in anyway. after filming we had around 45 that we later edited.

Editing
To edit our music video remake we used Adobe premier Procc2018 and downloaded the original videa from YouTube to put in thee bottem right corner. This way people can easily distinguish the similarities and differenced between our video and the original. Editing took around and hour and a half and our video is around a minute and five seconds.

The Final Product

Evaluation
Overall, I personally found this task very difficult. I had difficulty with the entire process yet I am happy with how the final product turned out to look like. Although I found this task hard, it made me realise that I would much rather base my coursework on a magazine rather than a music video.
